Wedding Gifts and Campbell Pottery, A Perfect Match

August 16, 2019 By Eric Lofdahl

If you have been in the gallery lately, you may have noticed some slightly empty shelves. Between the Minnesota Pottery Festival, Minnesota Garlic Festival, and wedding season we’ve been moving a lot of pots! Thankfully, we’ve been able to get stocked back up with some great new pieces.

In fact, just today our Campbell Pottery order arrived. That means more amazing stellar art pottery! There is a ton of variety in his work, both in glaze and shape. Trays, bowls, baking dishes, mugs, pitchers, vases, and more feature in his catalog while his glazes have bursts of color and stunning crystalline patterns. His shelves are so full now, we had to move all his mugs to a different area in the gallery!

So if you still have a wedding coming up this year, or if you are still looking for the perfect gift for a happy couple who got married earlier this summer, we have you covered. Campbell Pottery is a favorite for wedding gifts, and we’ll gift wrap everything for free.

Check out some of the new pieces below, and make sure to stop in soon to see them in person!

Mother’s Day

May 1, 2019 By Eric Lofdahl

Mother’s Day is next Sunday. You probably have an idea of what you want to get for your mom or have bought it already, but maybe you are still looking for a unique gift to impress her this year. We’ve got that covered here at the Clay Coyote. Our wide variety of handmade art, both from our own potters and the featured artists we carry in the gallery, has something for everyone.

Chef's Line of FlamewareIf your mother is a home chef, consider picking up a piece from our Chef’s Line of flameware pottery. Full of unique, versatile pieces there is sure to be an item that will fill a gap in your mom’s kitchen or upgrade a piece of cookware she already has. Each piece of flameware can be used on the stove, whether it’s an electric, gas, or glass top stove, as well as in the oven or on the grill. My personal favorites are the Clay Coyote Flameware Cazuela, the Clay Coyote Dutch Oven, and the Clay Coyote Tagine. The Cazuela features deep sides, a short handle, and a tab on the front to make it easy to move the pan between stovetop and oven. It will become the workhorse of your mom’s kitchen in no time. The Dutch Oven holds about three quarts, and is made entirely of Clay Coyote Flameware. Our Tagine, on the other hand, features a flameware bottom and a stoneware top that is available in four colors. The Tagine is a true statement piece. We have cookbooks that pair great with both the Dutch Oven and Tagine and will give your mom some inspiration for delicious new recipes.

Maybe your mom is more of a baker than a chef. Lucky for you, we have great baking dish options here as well. The Clay Coyote Bread Baker and the Clay Coyote Baking Dish are a covered and open baking dish option from our potters. We also have numerous baking dishes from our featured artists such as the Campbell Pottery Pie Plate and the Sunset Canyon Pottery Lasagna Baking Dish.

Jewelry always makes a great gift, and we have plenty of that in the gallery as well. Some new jewelry has come in over the past few weeks, so if your mom is a fan of Clay Coyote but hasn’t been out to the gallery recently, you can surprise her with something she hasn’t seen before. Spirit Glassworks and joeyfivecents are a couple of the exciting new artists we have in the gallery. Or maybe you know she has had her eye on a specific piece from an artist we have featured for a while such as Desert Heart Jewelry or Ten2Midnight Studios.

Whatever you decide on it is sure to a be a quality piece of handcrafted art. I could go on for pages highlighting the unique pieces we carry in the gallery. Instead, I’ll encourage you to come out to the gallery to see the pieces in person. I have already picked out something for my mother, but I can’t tell you what it is because she reads this blog. I gift wrapped it here, and I’ll be happy to do the same for the gift you pick out.

Not in Minnesota? If you order from our online shop, you can leave a note for us to gift wrap and include a personal message with your gift. Happy shopping!

Caffeine Awareness Month

March 21, 2019 By Eric Lofdahl

I have a confession to make. I love coffee. Dark roast, light roast, Americanos, double espresso shots, pour-overs, french press, good old drip coffee . . . I love it all. So, when I heard it was caffeine awareness month, my first thought was “I’m very aware of caffeine.” I was first introduced to the joys of coffee when I tried a sip of my father’s coffee as a kid. I did not like it. However, given a few years and a summer job working at the Minnesota State Fair, I learned to love it. Now, ten years after developing a taste for it, coffee and I have been through a lot together. It got me through college, helped me stay focused and energized during twelve hour shifts working in a restaurant and food truck in Minneapolis, and warmed me up after being out in the cold for five hours going door-to-door as a canvasser.

Turns out I was wrong.

Caffeine awareness month is meant to recognize the potential risks of caffeine, and encourage moderate consumption. Now, there is a lot of research out there regarding the various health benefits and health problems that can be caused by caffeine. For instance, research from the Linus Pauling Institute at Oregon State University has shown an association between moderate coffee consumption and lower risks of various diseases like type 2 diabetes and Parkinson’s. It can be quite confusing to keep track of how much caffeine one should consume. Thankfully, one of Minnesota’s great institutions, the Mayo Clinic, offers some guidance on this topic.

The Mayo Clinic recommends consuming up to 400 milligrams of caffeine in a day. That’s the equivalent of four cups of coffee. If you’re drinking more than that, and you experience side effects such as migraines, insomnia, irritability, or an upset stomach, it is recommended to cut back your consumption.

Also important to remember is that caffeine isn’t just found in coffee. Remember to be mindful of caffeine coming from soda, tea, chocolate/cocoa, energy drinks, and even certain medications. Whether it is coming from coffee or other sources, caffeine is a part of many people’s daily routines. More often than not, it doesn’t create health issues. However, it is important to keep in mind how much caffeine you consume to avoid the potential negative side effects.

Aeropress and Whitestone CoffeeI will continue to enjoy my morning and afternoon coffee. Lately, I have been brewing Whitestone Coffee Co.’s Campfire Roast with an Aeropress at home. It’s a great way to make a single cup of coffee, and I find that helps me to moderate how much I am drinking in a given day.

Stop in and pick up a bag of Whitestone Coffee yourself. We sell their medium and dark roasts, both ground and whole bean, in the gallery. In addition, you can pick up a new mug from one of the many artists we feature either in the gallery or online. Whether it’s one of Campbell Pottery’s Bistro Mugs, a Fitzgerald Pottery Coffee Mug, or one of the new Dirty Dog Mugs that came in last week, there are styles for everyone.
