Mother’s Day

May 1, 2019 By Eric Lofdahl

Mother’s Day is next Sunday. You probably have an idea of what you want to get for your mom or have bought it already, but maybe you are still looking for a unique gift to impress her this year. We’ve got that covered here at the Clay Coyote. Our wide variety of handmade art, both from our own potters and the featured artists we carry in the gallery, has something for everyone.

Chef's Line of FlamewareIf your mother is a home chef, consider picking up a piece from our Chef’s Line of flameware pottery. Full of unique, versatile pieces there is sure to be an item that will fill a gap in your mom’s kitchen or upgrade a piece of cookware she already has. Each piece of flameware can be used on the stove, whether it’s an electric, gas, or glass top stove, as well as in the oven or on the grill. My personal favorites are the Clay Coyote Flameware Cazuela, the Clay Coyote Dutch Oven, and the Clay Coyote Tagine. The Cazuela features deep sides, a short handle, and a tab on the front to make it easy to move the pan between stovetop and oven. It will become the workhorse of your mom’s kitchen in no time. The Dutch Oven holds about three quarts, and is made entirely of Clay Coyote Flameware. Our Tagine, on the other hand, features a flameware bottom and a stoneware top that is available in four colors. The Tagine is a true statement piece. We have cookbooks that pair great with both the Dutch Oven and Tagine and will give your mom some inspiration for delicious new recipes.

Maybe your mom is more of a baker than a chef. Lucky for you, we have great baking dish options here as well. The Clay Coyote Bread Baker and the Clay Coyote Baking Dish are a covered and open baking dish option from our potters. We also have numerous baking dishes from our featured artists such as the Campbell Pottery Pie Plate and the Sunset Canyon Pottery Lasagna Baking Dish.

Jewelry always makes a great gift, and we have plenty of that in the gallery as well. Some new jewelry has come in over the past few weeks, so if your mom is a fan of Clay Coyote but hasn’t been out to the gallery recently, you can surprise her with something she hasn’t seen before. Spirit Glassworks and joeyfivecents are a couple of the exciting new artists we have in the gallery. Or maybe you know she has had her eye on a specific piece from an artist we have featured for a while such as Desert Heart Jewelry or Ten2Midnight Studios.

Whatever you decide on it is sure to a be a quality piece of handcrafted art. I could go on for pages highlighting the unique pieces we carry in the gallery. Instead, I’ll encourage you to come out to the gallery to see the pieces in person. I have already picked out something for my mother, but I can’t tell you what it is because she reads this blog. I gift wrapped it here, and I’ll be happy to do the same for the gift you pick out.

Not in Minnesota? If you order from our online shop, you can leave a note for us to gift wrap and include a personal message with your gift. Happy shopping!

Handmade Jewelry for Everyone

March 6, 2019 By Eric Lofdahl

I’m not somebody who wears a lot of jewelry. In fact, I own exactly two pieces of jewelry: a watch and a money clip. I have both with me almost daily. Each has its practical purpose, but they also simply look nice, and that is why I like them.

Here at the Clay Coyote, we have a wide selection of handmade jewelry. Right in the center of the gallery are four display cases and a table filled with jewelry from artists across the country. In fact, the money clip I carry came as a gift from the Clay Coyote. The best part about jewelry is that it is art you can bring with you. You can make a statement, show your own personal style and appreciation for handmade art, and support the artists who make it just by wearing it.

March 13 is National Jewel Day. A day to buy new jewelry for yourself or others, wear what you already have, and recognize jewelers. It’s a great day to get a new piece of handmade jewelry if you have been thinking about spicing up your wardrobe, or surprise a special someone with a gift.

Some of the great options here include triple wrap bracelets by Desert Heart out of Alpine, Texas, key necklaces from Alchemy in Brooklyn, NY, or maybe a new jewelry box from Mikutowski Woodworking in Menominee, MI.

The jewelry is always for sale in the gallery and many styles are on our online shop, but for the best deal and largest selection stop in before March 9. That is the last day of our extended dot sale, and all the jewelry is 25%, 35%, or 50% off! We’ll even gift wrap the piece for you if it’s for that special someone. Just be sure to hide it well so it isn’t found before the 13th.
