Take a virtual stroll, it’s fall on the Clay Coyote prairie

October 17, 2016 By Morgan

It’s a perfect fall at The Clay Coyote and the colors are in full bloom. Morgan and Brett (our intrepid Building and Grounds Manager) took the 1945 International H out for a spin on our walking path through the prairie. Take a look at the photos from our adventure.

The walking path is open to anyone who wants to go for a stroll. Also, any photographers who want a stunning backdrop (class pictures, family shots, engagements….), you’re invited to do photo shoots out here. Just let us know you’re coming.

Levi’s Pottery in the Gallery

September 7, 2016 By Morgan

Levi Yankosky PotteryLevi Yankosky joined the Clay Coyote Emerging Artist Program on September 1st. Levi is a self-taught potter from rural Minnesota. Levi has been working as a production potter for Dock 6 Pottery and Kerry Brooks Pottery in Minneapolis.

Levi’s been discovering his pottery path through continuous trial. He’s finding his forms, testing out new concepts, and learning new techniques every day.

Because of his willingness to chip in and help out, Levi was invited over the summer to participate in a wood firing with Wisconsin potter, Zac Spates. Levi got the wood fire bug and can’t wait for the next opportunity to try it again.

Levi’s pottery in the Gallery reflects his artistic journey. He’s got glazed pots, soda fired pots, and wood fired pots. His mugs, tumblers, bowls, and bottles are on sale in the Gallery.

Levi Yankosky glaze processIn the coming months, Levi’s going to spending most his time learning about cone 10, reduction firing (which we’re known for here at the Coyote). He’s already spending time with Betsy, taking copious notes on her finishing techniques and trying out a few traditional Clay Coyote glaze combinations and some new twists.

Come out to the Gallery any day of the week to get your hands on his work. Or stop by our booth at the 42nd Annual Arts & Crafts Festival, it will be held Friday, September 16th and Saturday, September 17th in Library Square (directions). While you’re in Hutchinson, make sure to check out the Crow River Winery’s epic corn maze, it’s open daily through October 31st.

And both Levi’s and Katie Teesdale’s pottery will be available for sale online starting mid-September. Get your holiday orders in now.

PS: Katie and Levi were featured on Page 2A in the Hutchinson Leader this week. Please take a moment to read the article.

Katie’s Pottery in the Gallery

September 7, 2016 By Morgan

Katie Teesdale Pottery in the Clay Coyote GalleryKatie Teesdale is one of the new Clay Coyote Emerging Artist Studio potters. Katie hails from Philadelphia, but she’s originally Illinois (ah hem … we know a few other talented potters who started out in Lincoln’s state). While in Philly, Katie was working for The Clay Studio. There she had access to electric cone six kilns and porcelain clay. Katie’s porcelain pots are unglazed on the outside, but still shine, she uses a special three-phase polishing process to get the soft, smooth, almost glass-like exterior.

Over the last few years, Katie has developed her two signature glazes a fresh, grass green and a bright, sky blue, they shine on her brilliant white clay.

Katie also has a collection of porcelain clay jewelry. The clay is light, brightly glazed, on sterling silver.

You can also see some of Katie’s terracotta sculptural pieces. These statement pots were designed to display air plants, but they stand alone too.

Katie Teesdale throwing potsKatie’s pots are for sale in the Clay Coyote Gallery, she’s in the Studio most days and would love to have you stop in to say “hi” and talk about her porcelain polishing processes.

All of Katie’s work will also be on display at the 42nd Annual Hutchinson Arts & Crafts Festival. The Festival will be held on Friday, September 16th and Saturday, September 17th in Library Square (directions).  While you’re at the Festival, make time to stop into Zella’s right across the street. They’re celebrating their Grand (re)Opening under new ownership.
