Reasons to Move to Hutchinson, MN

September 13, 2017 By Kylie Lawson

Hutchinson may be a small town, but it’s a close-knit community with so much to do! It’s a great location, only one hour away from the Twin Cities, and has the beautiful Crow River running through it. Hutchinson is a great town for young people to build a life and a home. Here are a few reasons why:

Eat & Shop
Hutchinson is a town of about 15,000 people. Small, yet it has all the essentials (and more) a person could need. There is a great selection of local shopping from funky clothing and furniture boutiques to art shops like the Clay Coyote and Quilt Haven, hair salons on every block, and several auto body shops in case you run into trouble. It has several name brand stores such as Walmart, Aldi, Target, Menards, and Shopko. There are numerous dining options from chain fast food and sit down restaurants like Mcdonald’s Applebee’s, Buffalo Wild Wings, Culver’s and more, to great local options such as Zella’s and Main Street Sports Bar. This town has everything you need with someone to greet you with a friendly smile. Be sure to drive around town and check out what Hutchinson has to offer.

Play & Socialize
There is no shortage of things to do in Hutchinson, especially for people under 40. If you are a nature lover, there are plenty of trails to walk or bike, like the Luce Line Trail. This trail is 63 miles long and goes east to west  from Cosmos to Wayzata. There is a kayak rental place on the Crow River where you can rent a kayak and enjoy time on the river. Also by the river there is a wildlife sanctuary and parks to have picnics and other gatherings. There are parks all throughout town that you can spend the day at, and of course there is plenty of lakes to fish and tube on. For some fun date night ideas, there’s the State Theatre that plays movies for $3.50(!!) a person (yes you read that right, date night for under $20). Next to the movie theater is a delicious frozen yogurt shop called Below Zero. A great dining option on weekends is the Crow River Winery just outside of town on Highway 7. Zella’s located on Main Street is open Monday’s for lunch and all other days and evenings except Sundays. Zella’s is a great choice for locally grown food, and they often have live music. For some family fun, there is the Wheel and Cog Children’s Museum inside the mall, the Hutchinson Community Aquatic Center, the Paint Factory, the McLeod County Historical  Museum, and Squeaky’s Bowling Alley. For more information on activities and businesses in Hutchinson, visit the Hutchinson Chamber of Commerce and Tourism website.

Community & Volunteer Opportunities
The options for community involvement are large and diverse in Hutchinson. The Hutchinson Chamber of Commerce and Tourism puts out a monthly calendar with all the community events going on around town. There is something going on every single day, from live music to vendor fairs, from festivals to seminars. Be sure to check out the calendar and mark yours with what interests you. Come enjoy the fun or sign up to volunteer! There are many great volunteer opportunities in the community from working at festivals such as RiverSong and MN Pottery Festival, or at organizations like Hutchinson Center for the Arts and Hutchinson Theater Company. There are also community groups and organizations you can get involved in, such as the Hutchinson Area Women of Today, Networking and Empowering Women Group, Hutchinson Young Professionals, Business Network International, Hutchinson Ambassadors, and Hutchinson Jaycees.  Another way you can get involved is joining a local church. Hutchinson has churches of all different religions including Catholic, Evangelical Free, Methodist, Lutheran, UCC, and more. Hutchinson is the perfect town to easily dive into the community and make friends while improving yourself and helping others.

Career & Education Opportunities
A huge draw that Hutchinson has is the amount of opportunities for jobs and education. Hutchinson is home to many large manufacturing companies such as 3M, HTI, Mitgi, Hutchinson Manufacturing, and more. Plus, Hutchinson is always getting new businesses in town, like the new manufacturing company called Uponor North America that produces PEX pipe. There is always a new building going up or a new business moving into an existing one. Hutchinson tries to stay on top of what’s modern and bringing it into town. With that being said, there is no shortage of job opportunities. If you are looking to further your education, Hutchinson is home to Ridgewater College, a two year community college. Here they have many degree and certificate options to help you reach your goal. If you have children, Hutchinson has many different school options you can choose from. There is the Hutchinson Public School system, as well as a few religious academies of different denominations, and a charter school. There is something out there for everyone to meet all education and career needs.

Home Sweet Home
Check out what this community has to offer for housing options. Hutchinson provides several options for apartments for individuals, couples, and single families. Below, I have provided a bullet list with apartment options and contact information. If you are looking for a house, Hutchinson has Edina Realty, Keller Williams Realty, RE/MAX Results, RE/MAX, Hometown Realty, and many other local realty businesses. Check their sites for listings and get in contact with one of their agents to help you find the perfect home. And if you love this town so much, you can stay here the rest of your life and enjoy the many options Hutchinson has for senior care centers.
