Recipe Revisited: Cranberry-Apple Crisp

August 27, 2022 By Morgan

From Emily in the Gallery~

Today is my last day working Clay Coyote Gallery (sad face) but will be back throughout the holiday season to help out! That being said, I only find it fitting to revisit this very first Clay Coyote recipe posted back in 2006! I LOVE everything apple, and so I know personally I will be making this recipe as we return to school and as apple picking season commences.

Morgan’s Cranberry-Apple Crisp

  1. First, put 1 cup of fresh cranberries, one cup of water and ¼ cup of sugar in a sauce pan and bring to a boil.
  2. While the cranberries are coming to a boil, peal and chop up 4-5 apples. I prefer Honeycrisp (they are Minnesotan) but any apple you like is fine.
  3. The put the apples in a big baking bowl (preferably a Clay Coyote Bowl Shallow –  (they are oven safe you know) and sprinkle with ¼ cup sugar, 1 teaspoon of cinnamon and a squirt of lime juice if you have it.
  4. When the berries have boiled (they will look a bit like mush – that’s ok) drain off the juice and pour the berries in with the apple mixture. Fold the apples and the berries together.
  5. Then in a separate bowl combine together 1 ½ cup rolled oats, 2 table spoons flour, 1 table spoon cinnamon, ¼ cup sugar, and 3/4 stick of room temperature butter. Pour the mixture over the fruit and place in the oven at 350 for 50-60 minutes.
  6. When you are all done, it should look like this:

Optional Pottery Used

  • Clay Coyote Salad Bowl Deep
  • Soup & Chili Bowls

Back to School Means Tailgating Season!

August 31, 2017 By Kylie Lawson

Back to school is right around the corner and that brings a lot of fun things people have been waiting all year for: the first sign of fall with colder weather and changing leaves, hot chocolate, sweaters, pumpkin patch and apple orchard trips, and most importantly, football season.

With high school football season soon impending, the Clay Coyote has all your tailgating needs for cheering on your favorite team and players. National Tailgating Day is September 2nd, so you better stock up and prepare!

The first must-have item for your Friday night football tailgate is the Flameware Grill Basket. The Clay Coyote makes the only handmade clay grill basket in the United States, so you better get yours soon! It can go on any type of grill, be used with any type of utensils, and can cook whatever your heart desires. It gives your dish that smoky grill flavor without the risk of burning or falling through the grill.

Another item you need is the Clay Coyote’s vinegar crock. No, don’t think I’m crazy for telling you to buy a vinegar crock for a tailgate party. Even though it’s main purpose is for making homemade vinegar, it has other uses as well. You can make lemonades and teas which would be great for your tailgate, or something even better, margaritas! The vinegar crock can hold your favorite margarita mix, just add ice to your cup. Touchdown!

High school football isn’t the only season starting, college and NFL are too! These tailgate items will be perfect for your Saturday and Sunday tailgates as well. Especially the grill basket, because we pitched our ultimate tailgating tool to the Minnesota Super Bowl Host Committee as the perfect VIP gift for Super Bowl 52 attendees to take home as a piece of Minnesota.

Itching to go to a tailgate party before the season has even started? Well you’re in luck because on September 8, the Clay Coyote will be hosting their monthly Coyote After Dark event and it’s a tailgate party! Enjoy complimentary beverages and tailgate food, watch people battle it out during the grill basket grill-off, try homemade pizza from the new pizza oven, try throwing a pot for free, and browse the gallery. This free and fun event is open to all ages from 5-8pm. You won’t want to miss it, and it’s a great way to relax and have fun after that first week of school!

Back to school time doesn’t have to be a time that’s dreaded, especially when there is so much to be excited about!

Hurry in to the Clay Coyote Gallery and Studio to get your must have tailgate needs. We’re located just outside of Hutchinson and open Monday-Saturday 10-5pm and Sunday from noon-4pm. With your new clay items, your tailgate party will be a touchdown.
