Katie’s Pottery in the Gallery

September 7, 2016 By Morgan

Katie Teesdale Pottery in the Clay Coyote GalleryKatie Teesdale is one of the new Clay Coyote Emerging Artist Studio potters. Katie hails from Philadelphia, but she’s originally Illinois (ah hem … we know a few other talented potters who started out in Lincoln’s state). While in Philly, Katie was working for The Clay Studio. There she had access to electric cone six kilns and porcelain clay. Katie’s porcelain pots are unglazed on the outside, but still shine, she uses a special three-phase polishing process to get the soft, smooth, almost glass-like exterior.

Over the last few years, Katie has developed her two signature glazes a fresh, grass green and a bright, sky blue, they shine on her brilliant white clay.

Katie also has a collection of porcelain clay jewelry. The clay is light, brightly glazed, on sterling silver.

You can also see some of Katie’s terracotta sculptural pieces. These statement pots were designed to display air plants, but they stand alone too.

All of Katie’s work will also be on display at the 42nd Annual Hutchinson Arts & Crafts Festival. The Festival will be held on Friday, September 16th and Saturday, September 17th in Library Square (directions).  While you’re at the Festival, make time to stop into Zella’s right across the street. They’re celebrating their Grand (re)Opening under new ownership.

PS: Katie and Levi were featured on Page 2A in the Hutchinson Leader this week. Please take a moment to read the article.

Big news from The Clay Coyote Studio: Meet Katie

August 15, 2016 By Morgan

We are delighted to announce that Katie Teesdale will be joining the Clay Coyote Emerging Artist Studio on September 1, 2016.

Katie originally hails from Glen Ellyn, Illinois. She received her BFA from University of Iowa in Ceramics with honors.

Katie Teesdale
We’re so excited to have Katie joining #teamcoyote!

Since 2014, Katie has been working at The Clay Studio in Philadelphia, a nonprofit educational institution dedicated to the promotion and development of the ceramic arts and the work of clay artists. At The Clay Studio Katie’s primary role has been the Educational Assistant for Outreach and teaching artist; for the last two years she has spearheaded the Claymobile, a mobile outreach program to bring clay arts to underserved areas of Philadelphia.

Katie’s passion for teaching will continue, as she takes on the role of Ceramics Teacher for Dassel-Cokato High School part-time this September.

Katie joins the Clay Coyote with the goal of starting her own pottery studio in three years. Katie says, “I was trying to find place that would allow me launch my own line of pottery and build business skills to start my own studio, when I found the Clay Coyote Emerging Artist Incubator I realized that the program has everything I need: a shared space to offset the high cost of starting up, a built-in customer base to support my growth as I developed my pottery, and the small business mentoring that’s missing from fine arts academic programs.”

When not potting, Katie loves spending time with friends and family, playing with her dog Watson, and swing dancing.

Katie will be in the Studio most afternoons and weekends, she’s self-proclaimed night owl and has a mad sweet tooth. Come out meet Katie!

Katie’s work will be available for purchase in the Clay Coyote Gallery and online at www.claycoyote.com starting in September.
