Studio Refresh

May 31, 2016 By Morgan

After months of planning it’s time for the studio refresh!

What’s coming?

Over the next two months we’ll be refreshing the studio to add some new, modern touches. We’ll be replacing walls and windows, moving the kilns around, adding new energy-efficient lighting, building new shelves, creating a new glazing station, and adding some color!

Some before pictures:

Stay tuned to the blog to see what’s on the horizon.

PS: Now, I can’t get the Phil Collins’ song outta my head!

Betsy Frost Jewelry

May 18, 2015 By Ann

You may remember Betsy Frost jewelry from a few years ago. We are excited to have her new coral collection in the gallery. Betsy’s designs are fluid – reflecting her early training in dance and gymnastics, and sensual – hinting at the female form. One could say her designs have an almost Scandinavian feel. Betsy prizes shape and movement over surface texture and color. She brings her jewelry alive with links and hinges in a way that is comfortable to wear, fun and aesthetically pleasing. She works primarily in sterling silver, and her pieces are either fabricated from sheet into hollow forms, or cast through the lost-wax casting process.

“My style, in both jewelry and sculptural objects, reflects my love of dance and movement. I am attracted to sensual shapes and objects, and try to reflect this attraction in my work. I strive for fluidity in my pieces, and am constantly trying to ‘reinvent a shape’ by giving it movement with links or hinges. Shape and movement take precedence over surface texture and color.

I am inspired by artists such as Matisse and Degas, but also get ideas from my immediate surroundings – the shape of a flower, or the ‘line’ of a piece of furniture or other object. I am mesmerized by patterns in tapestry, wallpaper and carpet. When I’m talking to someone, I must confess, I’m usually studying the wallpaper or designs in the carpet, trying to envision the shapes as beautiful pieces of jewelry.”

Sergio Lub Bracelets

May 15, 2015 By Ann

Sergio Lub has traveled through every continent learning his craft. From the Andes to the Himalayas, he met master craftsmen who taught him ancient metal working techniques and their deep beliefs of wearing metals for health and vitality. An important part of our company mission is to preserve these valuable traditions by incorporating them into his designs.

Back in 1984 – while visiting a master Tibetan jeweler near Katmandu, Nepal – Sergio noticed a beautiful intricate bracelet with a double silver spiral being worn by his old teacher. The master noticed Sergios interest and taught him how to make it along with its meaning. “During deep meditation, if I feel lost while exploring, I just follow the cord back to myself, he said through our interpreter. In this old Tibetan design the double spiral represents the umbilical cord connecting body and soul. Those seeking deeper levels of awareness have traditionally worn it.

Mullanium Jewelry

May 15, 2015 By Ann

Mullanium jewelry is a customer favorite. Their steam punk designs are made with a variety of metals such as silver, brass, and copper. They achieve an array of colors by giving each piece a patinaed and/or hand painted finish. Many earrings and pins are hand stamped with various patterns which add to the individuality of each design.  Some of the elements they like to incorporate in our jewelry are glass cabochons, fresh water pearls, and old time pieces. All of the necklaces are made with sterling silver chain and come in a variety of lengths, and the earring wires are hypo-allergenic stainless surgical steel.

We also have their bird sculptures in the gallery!
